Balkan biodiversity across spatial and temporal scales -

patterns and mechanisms driving vascular plant diversity

BalkBioDrivers

One of the intricate groups of Campanula species from the Balkan Peninsula, which are distributed in Albania, Greece and Montenegro, belong to Campanula sect. DecumbentensC. hawkinsiana and C. ramosissima. Our aim is to get insight into the morphological variability and phylogenetic relationships between these two species in order to determine whether the morphological variability observed in previous field studies is genetic or whether it is more correlated with bioclimatic habitat characteristics. Classical morphometric as well as molecular (DNA sequencing) phylogenetic analyzes will be applied to the large population samples covering the entire range of the group.
