Balkan biodiversity across spatial and temporal scales -
patterns and mechanisms driving vascular plant diversity
Sesleria gr. Latifolia includes taxa that are common in the Mediterranean, sub-Mediterranean and supra-Mediterranean areas from the Apennine Peninsula to the Caucasus. The species belonging to this group are morphologically similar and have elongated cylindrical inflorescences, elongated rhizomes with a pronounced contractile portion; many species grow in forests. Since no comprehensive research has been conducted on the Latifolia group and the relationship between taxa within the group and their distribution are not clear, our goal is to determine the degree of variability of morpho-anatomical characteristics, genetic differentiation by modern molecular methods and correlations between morpho-anatomical variability and ecological conditions of habitats.
